We believe that children learn much of what they need to know through play. Pre-school pupils therefore also engage in self-directed free-play, facilitated by teachers. The children have ready access to and can explore the natural outdoor environment; and extend their physical, emotional, and developmental boundaries while supported by a homely learning environment.

LEARNING

The pre-school curriculum at Orel-Vine takes a developmental approach to the education of young children, helping them master the basic learning and social skills that form the foundation for all future learning. In addition they study French, Reading and Phonetics, Basic Information Technology, Physical Education, Art, Music, Social Skills, Christian Religious Education and engage in all school clubs.

Most importantly, they are brought up to understand God’s love for them. Orel-Vine is every child’s home away from home.

ASSESSING PROGRESS

The curriculum allows teachers to evaluate learning as students advance, with progressive assessments and analysis tools that help them identify each learner’s strengths and weaknesses. Students are given homework to assess mastery of the concepts taught and at the end of every term, they receive holiday work. Students’ progress is assessed through mid-term and end of term exams. In their final year of study (year 6), candidates sit for their Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Exams.

Assessments encourage preparation and revision but also foster practice and build familiarity with tests. Our students are therefore well prepared for their final exams and acclimatized with proper exam practices. It is also through assessments that learners’ strengths and weaknesses are identified. The teachers can thereby take the necessary measures to ensure every student improves. This way excellence is fostered.

LEARNERS’ EVALUATION

Students’ assessments are graded on a point based system. These grades are reflected at the end of the term in a report outlining each individual child’s accomplishments both academic and co-curricular. Parents are invited at the end of the term for a special conferencing session with the class teachers.

OUR MANDATE

Our mandate is to put the needs and happiness of each individual child at the forefront of our delivery. We firmly believe that school should be the happiest time of every child’s life and we work hard to ensure that is true for all our students. This means educating with the abilities, background and potential of each individual at the back of the teacher’s mind. Excellence is what we aim for. Each student is given high but achievable expectations in line with their potential. The challenge to the child is to do their best and be their best.
