YEAR 10 LITERATURE IN ENGLISH. 0475

It is a very beautiful subject that calls for reading, analyzing, commenting and writing.

Literature is the only way through which we are able to travel through time, places, and seasons and see the whole wide world in print.

Poems, novels and plays portray characters and themes that are present, recurring and always with us. They are full of moral, spiritual and financial lessons worth borrowing a leaf from in all aspects of our lives and are a great way for us to tap into our career goals and aspirations. Literature goes a long way in developing our communication, self-esteem, public speaking and critical thinking skills.

At OREL VINE, Literature in English is a compulsory subject that will require you to sit for an IGCSE exam.

During our study, you will be exposed to a variety of Poetry (poems), Prose (Novels and short stories) and Drama (Plays). The books on the IGCSE syllabus are subject to change from time to time.

An examination approach that has 2 literature examinations papers is our Cambridge pathway chosen out of the three options offered. Our chosen approach has two papers.

Paper 1 (Poetry and Prose). That calls for a student to answer 2 questions. 1 from section A (Poetry) and 1 from section B (Prose – Novels and Short Stories).

Paper 2 Closed Drama is majorly about 2 plays. A student is expected to answer 2 questions. 1 on a passage based question (context question) on a drama and 1 as an essay question on another drama.

You are urged to buy the texts below that we will be using as reference materials during our course of study.

12th Night by William Shakespeare   A Drama.

Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
